A History of Innovation and Engineering Excellence

 

Serving the electric power industry for over 30 years, Phoenix Electric continues to be
recognized for strong engineering, extensive experience, and commitment to excellence.

1973

Phoenix Electric incorporated with the goal of providing specialty switchgear products and services to the electric power equipment industry.

1974

Began designing and manufacturing air core reactors.

1975Started ongoing cooperation with world-leading switchgear manufacturers in the design of ANSI/NEMA engineered control systems for gas insulated switchgear and generator circuit breakers.
1978Developed and installed the first 20 kA short-circuit interrupter for DC fuel cells.
1980Developed and installed the first 15 kV current-limiting protector for indoor and outdoor applications.
1988Developed and installed the first 38 kV current-limiting protector for indoor and outdoor applications.
1993Designed and installed replacement circuit breakers for hydroelectric generators at Egypt's Aswan Dam.
1997Designed and installed neutral blocking and by-pass device for controlling geomagnetically induced neutral currents in transmission networks.
2000Started designing and implementing retrofit upgrade packages for high-voltage systems at major hydroelectric generating stations.
2003Milestone achievement of 20,000 air core reactors in service.
2004Installation and successful energization of the first of 18 high current switchgear at Grand Coulee Dam, the largest hydroelectric station in the Unites States for the Bureau of Reclamation and partnering with ABB, Inc.
2005Start of design and implementation of control systems for the largest high voltage gas insulated substation in the United States in Southern California.
2006Retrofit design and installation of 11,200 Amp generator switchgear unit in a Northern Idaho Dam.
